Talking Oakland, it's troubles and its greatness, on The Eastern Shore podcast
I spoke with engaging and
well-informed host Brock Winstead last week about our town, its
troubles and its determination to overcome them, for his show and
podcast, The Eastern Shore, on bff.fm,
Mondays from 2-4. (Brock is a writer and is working on a fascinating
history of his house and Oakland's Golden Gate District, which I
encourage you to read here.)
Here's a link to our podcast conversation, and Brock's description of our talk, with kind words about yours truly:
This week on the show, I spoke with Jim O'Brien.
Jim's an Oakland-based writer who has spent the past four years
reporting deeply on the effects of violent crime in our city and on
efforts to slow and prevent that violence. He's a wonderful writer, and
he gives a fantastic interview. We talked about the violence prevention
community he's reported on, why he started this work, and his thoughts
on the intersection of violent crime and city politics. We also got a
little into the craft of writing because I couldn't help myself.
