My Q & A with Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf - Diablo Magazine, March 2015

Different mayor, different Oakland.
Below is a link to the published part of the interview I did with Mayor Libby Schaaf for the March issue of Diablo Magazine. We spoke on the 4th full day of her administration. We talked about many things. Those topics that relate to violence and its aftermath can be found here: "I signed up for a hard job." We do touch on violence in this piece; Mayor Schaaf says the biggest misconception about Oakland is that Downtown is violent. I wonder if she's right about that. Overall, Diablo's version of our talk is more general, and covers, among other things, issues of where a mayor's power lies, her efforts to get Google to move to Oakland, her thoughts on housing and development and on suffering in the city.
